RESEÑA
La obra “Mujeres coloniales” es un montaje músico teatral en el que participan 9 intérpretes entre actores y músicos. Se trata de una propuesta lúdica y festiva, que recoge la religiosidad popular latinoamericana para celebrar el mestizaje producido en América desde épocas coloniales.
El apóstol Santiago ha venido a la tierra a ayudar a los españoles durante el asedio de Michimalonco en 1541. Un vendedor ambulante, Hermes de Jesús, le explica que estamos en 2010 y la situación ha cambiado bastante. Traban amistad y parten un viaje juntos. En este camino Hermes le va contando historias de mujeres que vivieron en la época colonial como la chilena Sor Úrsula Suárez o la vasca Catalina de Erauso.
La obra fue escrita y llevada a escena el año 2008 gracias al apoyo de la Vicerrectoría Adjunta de Investigación y Doctorado de la Universidad Católica de Chile, a través de sus fondos concursables de creación artística. El año 2010 el montaje fue seleccionado como parte de la gira “Las Huellas de la Barraca 2010”, organizado por la Sociedad Estatal de Conmemoraciones Culturales de España, recorriendo 12 localidades del norte y sur de ese país.
Durante el espectáculo, el público hace un recorrido tras los peregrinos, como en las representaciones medievales. El montaje se ha realizado en un ambiente de fiesta para todos los sentidos: con música que recorre la Edad Media, la Colonia y la época contemporánea, con bellas imágenes realizadas por la artista visual Verónica Barraza, y con una decena de actores y músicos de diversas edades, pertenecientes a la Compañía La Calderona de la Facultad de Artes de la Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile.
